A Historical Landmark Connects the Brookside Community

One of the first signs of better weather in Kansas City is the busy hiking Trolley Trail in Brookside! Young families are out enjoying the sunshine, bikers line the trail, and energetic pups are well cared for with thoughtful doggy waste stations along the path. Everyone is out and about enjoying the sun, the fresh air, and the lovely community they call home.

Officially titled the Harry Wiggins Trolley Track Trail, this historical pathway serves as a thread, weaving together the local communities for over six miles. The walking, jogging, and biking trail joins Brookside to the Plaza through Crestwood and Waldo, moseying through the homes and shops, connecting backyards to cafes and grocery stores.

But did you know that the Trolley Trail ironically never carried a single trolley? Originally, the track was the site of the Country Club Line – Kansas City’s last streetcar line before the current RideKC streetcar. While other streetcar systems struggled and died out, the Country Club Line – today’s Trolley Trail – carried on, providing transportation and connecting the communities just like the walking trail continues to do today.
